BERT BELL NIGHT
Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 6:00pm
Wells Fargo Center
Philadelphia Soul vs Portland Thunder
Through a partnership with the Soul and Rothman Institute, all Norchester Red Knights football players and cheerleaders who purchase tickets for Bert Bell Night at the Philadelphia Soul Arena Football Game on May 2, 2015, will receive a complimentary baseline concussion test from Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center.
What is a baseline test?
Baseline testing is a pre-season exam conducted by certified healthcare professionals. Baseline tests are used to assess an athlete’s balance and brain function such as learning and memory skills, ability to pay attention or concentrate, and how quickly he or she thinks and solve problems, as well as for the presence of any concussion symptoms. Results from baseline tests (or pre-injury tests) can be used and compared to a similar exam conducted by a health care professional during the season if an athlete has a suspected concussion. Baseline testing generally takes place during the pre-season—ideally prior to the first practice.
ImPACT Test (the test Bert Bell Athletes will receive as part of this program)
ImPACT—Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing—is an essential part of a concussion management program that may be administered as a baseline and/or post-injury test to people of all athletic levels, ages five and older. The tool allows for assessment in areas of cognitive functioning such as memory, processing speed and reaction time prior to sustaining a concussion. If a patient suffers a head injury, ImPACT is repeated to evaluate changes in scores. ImPACT is a scientifically researched and validated concussion management tool currently used by all professional sports leagues.
The Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center is a collaboration with Jefferson, Rothman Institute, and Wills Eye Hospital, centrally located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The Center engages in expert management of concussive injuries, from baseline assessments to comprehensive concussion evaluations, as well as community education and outreach. The Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center uses ImPACT as part of their sports medicine concussion management program for athletes over the age of four.
You will report to a specified Soul table on the main concourse at the game on May 2 and receive a certificate to schedule your baseline test between May 4, 2015 and the start of your football season.
You will receive an email on May 1 after registration closes with instructions on where to go while you are at the game.
