The year was 1960 and Mr. James Batchelor, who was a member of the Pottstown Optimist Club, decided to organize a new Optimist Club in Chester County.  The Nor-Chester Optimist Club was to provide youth programs for the local community in Northern Chester County, separate from those in Pottstown.  The three Coventry Townships were growing at unprecedented rates and Mr. Batchelor knew the communities could support their own youth program.  In the fall of 1960, the Nor-Chester Red knights took to the field for the first season.

That first season could have just as easily been their last.  But thanks to a group of dedicated people and a small but gutsy group of players, the Red Knights evolved.  The first year was run with the players providing their own equipment, without team uniforms, and played an independent schedule picking up a game here and a game there.  In their second season 1961, they managed to enter the Berks County League and purchased uniforms for two squads.  Mr. Karl Burns and Mr. Chuck Wiley had joined Mr. Batchelor early on and it was these three individuals who paved the way for the next 39 years.

In 1965, the Red Knights joined the Bux Mont POP Warner League due to the need for a weight controlled program for the players.  The Red Knights prospered in the Bux Mont and for the next 14 years was one of the leagues strongest members.

In 1979, the Red Knights withdrew from the Bux Mont League and joined the Bert Bell Midget Football League.  The Red Knights were accompanied by Pottstown M & M Rams and the Lower Perk Longhorns.  In that same year, the Nor-Chester Red Knight Parent Association was formed.  Its formation was caused by the need for more streamline administration of the football program.  The Nor-Chester Optimist Club, while still retaining the ownership of the program, gave the day to day administration over to the parents.  Selected to formulate the parent organization was Mr. James Vaughn who placed the direction of the association on the proper track.  The success of the Parent Association can be attributed to his initial guidance.

In 2009, the Red Knights are a healthy successful Youth Football and Cheerleading Organization.  We look to the past, to salute those people to who we owe our success today.  Without the players, coaches, and concerned people of the past 50 years, we wouldn't be here today celebrating our 50th Anniversary.
